Just one comment about Google Maps, that see no better place to put than here.
I just realized than google maps is now using the local script of each country for displaying place names. That's clearly an enhancement, but not really great for those who don't master the script and are still interested in the country.
Only China and Hong-Kong display both chinese character and pinyin name. That's a good solution to the problem, I hope it's used for other countries soon. But of course just like the chinese version of google maps displays the names only using chinese character, it should be the same for other local version of the maps.
