Among the announcements during Where 2.0 and Google Developer Day last week was an important new update that was added to Google Maps to make it even more useful. Transit icons on Google Maps are now clickable in dozens of locations around the world! You might remember my post back on February 15/07 when I mentioned the addition of subway and light rail station map icons. This release goes a step further and adds bus stops, line and departure information in various cities.
Here are some examples of transit data on Google Maps:
- Austin, TX, USA (includes schedule data)
- Manchester, UK (includes schedule data)
- Paris, France
- Seattle, WA (includes schedule data)
- Tampa, FL (includes schedule data)
- Zurich, Switzerland (includes schedule data)

in germany i found the public transport data for most german cities... berlin for example has the metro subway online as well as the commuter s-bahn, longer range commuting, online...
frankfurt and hamburg just like munich too... most major cities have it now;-)
the bus system is still missing though!
cologne, germany, has the surface tram data online... but not the train system... not even @ the main train station linking to the rest of the country, very odd...
www.Hopstop.com already does a great job in New York City. Google is a little late to the party.
Don't forget TriMet in Portland, OR.
Check also www.sbcgr.ch live timetable: http://www.sbcgr.ch/modules/mod_timetable/iframe.php?busstop=150
this are real time departures!
Google maps has tram, metro and bus station info in all of the netherlands. But only line data, not schedule data. For the bus stops you have to zoom in all the way. The silly thing is that they don't have train stations on the maps. 92920v.nl does have all the schedule info for the country, so we'll use that for now.
