Starbucks Google Maps Mashup (Worldwide)

+ = Starbucks.. Mapped!

We've hit the motherload of Google Maps mashups with this one! Mississauga, Ontario based Pentura Solutions has created one of the coolest Google Maps mashups I've seen yet: All Starbucks locations from around the world! Residing on their FindByClick site this mashup is combining Google Maps with a database of 9,900 store locations from across the planet! Pan the Google Map around, zoom in and out or jump to a specific city from the provided list to find that next grande __insert 10 specifications here_.. latte! :) Pentura will be releasing a mobile version of this app sometime in the fall as well. For those of you that travel internationally, or live in a country where there are not many Starbucks locations this is an ultimate store locator tool to get your next fix! Enjoy! :)
[Digg it!]

For those Canadian readers be sure to also check the Tim Hortons locator!

Use the Starbucks Mashup in a major city and it pretty much shows you where the most hip/gentrified/safe/expensive areas are. Have fun!

Over the past seven hours, the mashup has served up over 1.34 million Starbucks cups.

That's a lot of caffeine!

I'd like to see a better UI. When first using the app, LA was chosen. Zooming out, I starting seeing cups show up throughout California and then Nevada. In other words, LA had stopped being the chosen location. Also, cups continued to be added, hundreds?, thousands? That seemed like odd functionality.

In fact, the choose your city pulldown is unneeded or at least, could be secondary. Use the zoom level to determine what to show. At US or state zoom, show the cities currently visible in that map with cups that have a number on them. Clicking a cup then zooms you in to that city. Continue doing this until you get the desired granularity. This would avoid having to show thousands of cups.

Also, the standard Google Maps double-click to zoom in feature should be active. Having to use the zoom bar is cumbersome.

Otherwise, nice app. I had the Starbucks data bookmarked away and had planned to create a map like this last year - now I don't have to.

anybody tested this with OPERA?

Very stupid... I will never update to IE!

The Starbucks mashup is compatible with Firefox 1.5, IE 6 and IE 7

As to the UI, it shows coffee for whatever region is in view and is a demonstration of the power of the Spatial Databox, which powers this site. We will add the "click to zoom" feature later.

"All Starbucks locations from around the world!" Hm, then Bangkok seems to be an alien city ;) as the Starbucks are not listed...some other areas outside US and UK as well.

IMHO a text input box is missing, as only very few non-US-cities are listed in the drop-down.

Our Starbucks mashup has been redesigned and rebuilt from scratch.

The count of Starbucks has increased to 10,300.

We also have Hong Kong mapped (Starbucks site doesn't.)
