Massachusetts contributions to gubernatorial candidates - Faneuil Media dropped by to tell me about a very interesting and eye-opening Google Maps mashup of publicly accessible data that has been built for Boston.com. It allows you to view 2006 Massachusetts campaign contributions based on any zip code. It also summarizes contributions on the town, county, state and national level. Here is an excerpt from the site:"..Thousands of Massachusetts residents have donated millions of dollars to the 6 candidates for governor: Democrats Christopher Gabrieli, Deval Patrick, and Thomas F. Reilly; Republican Kerry Healey; Independent Christy Mihos, and Green-Rainbow candidate Grace Ross.
Now you can check who is contributing in your community using our donation maps. We have mapped contributions made since Jan. 1, 2003 according to the addresses of the donors (the large map below is the Back Bay section of Boston). We will update these maps when the candidates file new reports twice a month."Check out the map of the top 10 Mass. zip codes by donations. They have also mapped where contributions are coming in from other US states as well.

Is there much interest in a web service that produces these types of thematic maps.
I have an example of what I am thinking of as the end-result -- where the contributor does nothing more than enter data (or upload and .xls) and then gets a URL to view that data as a thematic map.
Here's an example. A person is trying to communicate growth of a product and creates this table. I would like to make it easy for him to upload his data and get a growth-by-country rendering -- without having to learn anything about GIS.
