New Zealand Google Maps Mashup Roundup

New Zealand Windfarm Mashup - Greenpeace New Zealand has created a new Google Maps mashup of all windfarms in New Zealand. Appropriately named domain Yes2Wind.co.nz includes this mashup which plots the exact locations of proposed, under construction, operating and "approved but appealed" windfarms around the north and south islands of New Zealand. Cool windmill map icons reveal a short description and status of the project, along with the owner of each farm. What's interesting is that it shows how many homes are, or will be, powered by the farm. [Via ProgrammableWeb.com]

Find hidden secrets in New Zealand satellite imagery - With the recent upgrade of Google satellite mapping imagery for New Zealand the Gadgetophile blog points us to some hidden gems for various locations around New Zealand. Gadgetophile takes you on a very detailed tour of places such as the famed Cape Reinga lighthouse. The description reads: "...The Â’spiritualÂ’ northernmost point of New Zealand. If you look at the map, the physical northernmost point is across to the east a little way, but the lighthouse at Cape Reinga is the most readily accessible area, and quite often referred to as New ZealandÂ’s northernmost point."

Mike, I just read about Wikimapia from your post at Scoop and I have been up all night mapping a roadtrip I did back in 1998 as some friends here in the US are going to NZ in December and want to do something that's not the usual tourist trip.

This is SUCH an awesome way to share information. Mapimania!!!

These things are trivial to make.

Here's all the airfields the CAA know about:

Hi Mike,
since the entry in the Gadgetophile blog isn't really a mashup but rather a list of interesting places in New Zealand, I don't feel out of place to add my blog to your list of New Zealand "mashups".
I started to share my mountaineering and tramping (kiwi for hiking) routes in New Zealands backcountry by plotting them on Google Maps.
Check it out at

We are using Google Maps in the Taranaki Wiki project to associate locations with a Wiki entry.

The site is http://www.taranakiwiki.com

The quickest way to bring it up is by clicking on the (non-Google Maps) image of Taranaki on the front page.
