Very cool city recycling map - Design and Development firm Ideum has created a fantastic Google Maps mashup for the City of Torrance, California. The map mashes up with a list of locations around the city that you can recycle specific items. For example choosing Computer / Electronics followed by CD and DVD Players will map the 4 collection centers and companies that accept these items. Address and a link out to Google Maps directions is also included. On the backend is a complete content management system to allow the city to update items and locations. More information can be found here.. In my view, this kind of mashup should be present in every city website!

The UK Recycle Now web site which encourages people across the UK to recycle also has a Google Maps mashup of recycling centre data and maps. Check out the where can I recyle page here and type in a valid UK post code (e.g. SO40 3PJ) and you will be able to see the locations of recycling centres. You can then filter the results based on what you want to recycle.
