Alex Turnbull from Google SightSeeing just tipped me off on the fact that there are now street maps for the areas around Torino, Italy! Google must have silently slipped this mapping data into Google Local for the coming Winter Olympics being held here. Check this link to see. Now.. who will be the first to do a mashup of all Olympic Venues??!! Not really a mashup, but there it is, a basic collection of all the olympic venues. Just some locations on Tagzania, with a combination of tags, lets you see the geographic picture: winter + olympics + 2006. If you add a tag, you restrict the map to locations on Torino itself (winter + olympics + 2006 + city) or venues for skiing competitions (winter + olympics + 2006 + skiing), or whatever. It's easy, 'cause the streetmaps displayed by Google thru the API already show the Olympic locations mapped. Look at this place for instance: those blue points in the streets of Torino are Olympic sites.
Tagzania's views are set by default in satellite mode, but change to maps in all the examples above to appreciate the detail.
I've started working on a map on CommunityWalk (www.communitywalk.com) that shows most venues and related information. I'll be adding to it over the next few days and others are welcome to contribute. Just click the "Login to add to this community" button in the lower left corner.

By the way, these more detailed road maps were already in Google Earth. And in Google Earth you can see these better road maps for most of Europe. Just turn on the "Roads" layer for GE.
