Skype + Google Maps = MapMe for Skype

+ =
Kevin Delaney has made a guest posting on the Skype Journal blog about an interesting new project involving the Google Maps API and the popular Internet calling app known as Skype. He writes: "MapMe for Skype is a free plugin that connects your Skype contact list with technology from Google Maps" The plugin will allow you to:
  • calculate distances between your contacts,
  • map incoming SkypeIn calls,
  • find users in your area and much more.
Kevin is looking for 50-100 beta testers that meet the following criteria:
  • Use any version of Skype since 1.1
  • Use Windows 2000 or XP
  • have the Microsoft .NET Framework v1.1 (we can help you get it)
  • Decent technical knowledge
  • Live in the USA or Canada
If you're interested in being a part of this closed beta test, sign up here. I'll keep Skype users updated on the status of this new KhaosLabs plugin when it becomes available.

I'm very interested untill I read this:

Vbuzzer is challenging the proprietary protocol many VoIP companies are using which has left users vulnerable to security holes, virus attack, memory leaks, abnormal port activities and paying for inferior quality.

Full reports on vbuzzer

I agree skype is very popular now but the security issue will be more and more critical. I really don't know which info skype take and how it sent on internet. So I suggest to leave it untill it's going to be a standard.
